Medical Marijuana Essay - 938 Words

For decades America has associated marijuana with many things, and none of them ever any good. From the ‘60s with the hippie revolution, to today with criminals of all kinds, there have been numerous associations that are arguably unwarranted in this day and age. Why is it that we have such negative feelings about marijuana? In America today, the government considers it a Schedule I drug, meaning that it has a â€Å"high potential for abuse† and â€Å"no currently accepted medical use.† The problem with this classification clearly lies in the second half of its classification. Marijuana certainly has medicinal purposes, and humans have been using it for centuries to primarily treat chronic pain and a lack of appetite. It is hard to construct a†¦show more content†¦The truth is, we cannot. In our world today, you would be hard-pressed to not have someone close to you with something as serious as cancer or Alzheimer’s disease. With cancer comes a gre at number of awful symptoms, but to waste away from a lack of appetite is quite common. Surprisingly, this complete lack of appetite can easily be alleviated simply by the consumption of marijuana, be it through inhalation or ingestion. The main compound in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, has unique properties, and it is the reason why marijuana is such an effective treatment for loss of appetite and chronic pain. Though the FDA refuses to accept THC as appropriate treatment for these symptoms, they gladly endorse Marinol, the synthetic THC. The problems with Marinol are varied, but primarily, it is not nearly as effective as cannabis for treatment, and is quite psychoactive. While marijuana itself is a psychoactive drug, Marinol is 99% THC, and as such, consuming a pill of Marinol can easily induce a psychoactive state. Users have reported to be incapacitated for days and experiencing awful hallucinations all because of this man-made THC. The research is being done, the fa cts are presenting themselves, state legislature is moving forward, but it is not enough. If he does not want to make the bill a law, the president has the power to return the unsigned bill to the legislator, in what is called a veto. Learning About Myself Essay I realize that I don’t fully know who I am. I am still learning about myself as time passes. I could probably even name a person or two that could say they know me better than I know myself. What I do know is this: I am 22 years young and I have made a lot of mistakes in my life. And I may be naà ¯ve about some things, but, I have experienced a lot as well. I want to start with the fact that I love to learn. You might find me in my spare time with a book in hand. I also love to write. I have a bunch of kin, some I might not know but, most I love to spend time with. I share a bond with a soul that will not ever change. But I do not have any kids of my own. I am 22 years old and I was born In Minneapolis, MN on a cold winter Monday in November 2nd 1992. My grandmother raised me and my 3 siblings. I was always told that I’ve been with her since the age of 2. However, I was never all that interested in the details for certain reasons. My mother and father always existed somewhere in the back of my mind but they were never â€Å"there. Whether their absence was due to drugs, prison, or both I’m still not sure. I was always kept sheltered from it. I was faced with what at the time I considered to be one of the most life changing decisions of all time. I was going into junior high and my grandmother had decided out of nowhere to move back to her home state of Mississippi. Of course you can already guess how I felt about it. I really had no choice in the matter. After all, I really didn’t have anyone else at the time. I still like to refer to it as the worst decision ever. Everything was different. It was kinda like a culture shock for me. There weren’t any lights, no tall buildings, or regular neighborhoods with sidewalks. The fields went on for miles and miles. Full of cotton, corn and other crops. The people talked with a country accent and made fun and picked with me for being the new girl and talking proper as they liked to call it. I was always depressed. In my opinion some of the worst moments in my life happened to me while living in Mississippi. And I know its kinds selfish of me to dislike a place based on personal opinion but that is how I feel. I didn’t know anyone and my grandmother kept a tight leash on me. I didn’t have many friends so I had nowhere to go anyway. I was alone. The family I had there I didn’t know and I actually felt like most of them didn’t like me anyway. I even had to experience the pain of feeling a car crash into me. I remember coming crashing down on the windshield, cracking it, and getting rushed to the ER. I was lucky because there was not too much damage other than a few bumps, bruises, and a missing tooth. This somehow made me feel even less welcomed and liked. I hated Mississippi a little more because of it. I graduated high school and was saved by my mother who surprisingly came to Mississippi to bring me back to live in Minnesota with her. I never actually expected my mother to step up the way she did. She has been in my life and clean for 6 years. And I couldn’t be any prouder. I regret the fact that I can’t say the same about my father. I was always told that I shouldn’t be so judgmental towards my father. That I should give him a chance and not dislike him so much. I really tried I promise I did but he is the reason that I’ve learned that â€Å"Trust of the innocent is the liar’s most useful tool. † – Stephen King. I had to learn the hard way that I can’t trust anyone, especially not my father. So the last time he got out of prison in June of 2014 I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I trusted him. He started coming to see me. We even went places. He even helped me get my license. I thought we were a work in progress and I honestly still don’t know what went wrong. I had the worst day ever. It started with a toothache and having to get my wisdom tooth surgically removed and ended with me in handcuffs in the back of a police car because of dear ole daddy. I go home to lie down still coming down off the Novocain or whatever. And my father calls me in distress. He got into an altercation with some guys and ended up leaving his car somewhere and needed me for a ride back to his car. I knew it was bullshit because if I you are in an altercation the last thing you will do is leave your vehicle but I did not question it because my father is very secretive. I stupidly go to his rescue. I pick him up from his house to take him to his car and the moment I turn the corner I get cut off by a pickup truck. I thought it was just another driver going through road rage but once I look in my rear view mirror I realize that it’s not. Surrounded by police with guns drawn and K-9 in full beast mode. The whole time my father said nothing. I get pulled out of my car, put in handcuffs, in the back of a squad car with all of my possessions seized. After being forced to sit on the corner of Plymouth for hours I was finally told that my father had robbed a bank. I wasn’t released until after I was transported to my father’s house while they raided it. And even then it took for my mother to come looking for me and to confirm my story for them to let me go. Because he was not talking. He wouldn’t even tell the police I was his daughter and that I didn’t have anything to do with it. And I haven’t heard from him since I have learned to move on. I will never forgive him and I will never forget what he has done to me. I will not live my life in regret or blaming myself for something I have no control over. I will not let that situation hinder me. I have learned to be a better person because of it. I see myself ten years from now as a paralegal, correctional officer, or parole officer, married with at least three children. I am still learning about myself but I hope that by reading this you know a little more about me.

To activate the AMP Stack; Go to the root folder where OrangeHRM 2. 5 is installed Look for XAMPP-Control, double click to open Start The Apache and MySQL Servers Click the start button for Apache and MySQL. All administration tasks such as defining company information, job descriptions, qualifications, skills, memberships, nationality race, users, setting up email notifications, project information, creating custom fields, setting up the Benefits module, and also is the only user with full control over the system. The Admin Module allows you to Import and Export details on the PIM Module; this module also gives you the option of defining user rights. The username and password provided at the installation will be your admin login. Job – Define job tiles, specifications, pay grades, employment status and EEO job categories. Qualification – Define various qualifications and license types. Email Notifications – Configure all email notifications. Project Info – Add customers, projects, project administrators and the activities for projects. Data Import/Export – You can import Employee Information into the PIM Module into or csv files. Custom Fields – Define a custom field for a type of information for the PIM Module that you require. The Admin Module is only available to the administrator, an ESS User ESS or ESS Supervisor cannot view the Admin Module unless a new user is created and an employee is assigned to use it. By defining departments, divisions and teams you can assign individuals with projects and track the location with ease. A copy of the mail will be sent to the email address specified by the Admin. He can also select what copies of notifications he should receive. Rather than feeding employee details one by one you can import details from a csv file or you can export details all of the employees out of the system into a csv file for any other use. 4. 10. 1 Define Custom Export You can define criteria that need to be exported. A custom export is already defined if you are using Millennium Payroll. You can define many export criteria with different combinations which can be used in the â€Å"Export† feature. To define a custom export select â€Å"Define Custom Export† and click â€Å"Add† you will then see the screen shown on figure 4. 10. 1. 1. Figure 4. 10. . 1 Define a Name for the export and select the fields you need to be exported from â€Å"Available Fields† on the right of the screen and click â€Å"Add†. To add multiple fields press â€Å"Control† on your keyboard while selecting. Once you have added those fields they will reflect on the â€Å"Assigned Fields†. To remove fields from the à ¢â‚¬Å"Assigned Fields† select the fields and click â€Å"Remove†. You can define many import criteria with different combinations which can be used in the â€Å"Import† feature. To define a custom export select â€Å"Define Custom Import† and click â€Å"Add† you will then see the screen shown on figure 4. 10. 3. 1. To remove fields from the â€Å"Assigned Fields† select the fields and click â€Å"Remove†. You can define a custom field if you need to enter any information that is not available on the PIM Module. Records can be either entered manually one by one or imported from a csv file. You cannot import all the details but you can edit the remaining fields. Figure 5. 1 5. 1 Employee List Lists all the employees’ entered and imported into the PIM. You can view details of a particular employee by clicking on the employee’s name. Other than importing details this feature allows to add an employee and define a very informative profile. To add an employee simply click on â€Å"Add Employee† under the â€Å"PIM† menu and the ollowing screen shown on figure 5. 2. 1 will be shown. Figure 5. 2. 1 Enter the fields and you can also add a picture of the employee. To add a picture click on â€Å"Browse† and select the picture from the relavant path and click â€Å"Open†. Employee code is generated automatically, but can be changed if required. Please note that the maximum file size of the picture cannot exceed 1 megabyte and the picture should be in . jpg. It caters for all application and approval processes and is able to display information on leave entitlement, balance, history etc. The functionality of the Leave module differs depending on the rights of the user. The Leave module will be described from the perspective of an administrator, an ESS User who is a supervisor and the normal ESS user. The menu will show data depending on the user type. The Admin will see â€Å"Employee Leave Summary† and has full rights. ESS User who is a supervisor will see â€Å"Employee Leave Summary† (subordinates only) and the â€Å"Personal Leave Summary† and has viewing rights only. An ESS User will see â€Å"Personal Leave Summary† and has viewing rights only. 6. 1. 1 Employee Leave Summary To view the leave summary of employees select â€Å"Employee Leave Summary† you will see the screen shown on figure 6. 1. 1. 1. Figure 6. 1. 2. 1 6. 2 Define Days Off By selecting Define Days Off, the Admin can define the days off that will be applicable to the entire company and will be taken into consideration while calculating leave duration. Please note that this feature has to be defined by the Admin on any other user in the Admin User Group. Days off have been classified into: Weekends Specific Holidays 6. 2. 1 Weekends Here you can define the weekends or the days of the week that the company does not operate on. The screen shown on figure 6. 2. 1. 1 is an example. Define the days by selecting an option from the drop down. Click â€Å"Save† once your have defined all the days. The ESS – Supervisor has rights to assign leave to his subordinates and admin to all employees. Figure 6. 4. 2 Select the name of the employee, you can do this by entering the first letter of his name and you will see list of employees with that letter and you can select the relevant employee, then select the leave type, the dates from which he is suppose to be off and you can add a comment if necessary.
